Thessaloniki: Three appear in court for the murder of Vagia Nestor
Three arrested individuals were brought before the courts in Thessaloniki for an arson attack that cost the life of an elderly woman. The case is being handled by the Counter-Terrorism Service.

On Saturday afternoon, three arrested individuals were brought to the prosecutor's office in Thessaloniki, charged with arson in an apartment building that resulted in the death of Vagia Nestor. Police implemented strict security measures during the transfer, using the rear side of the court building.
According to Newsit, they are two men aged 29 and 24, and a woman aged 26. The prosecution authorities charge them with the offence of intentional manslaughter, with the aggravating circumstance that it was committed in the context of a terrorist act. They are also charged with the use of explosives, arson of foreign property and causing damage.
During questioning by the competent officers, the trio denied any involvement. They will subsequently be presented before the 3rd investigating judge, where they are expected to request time to prepare their defence strategy.
The Directorate for Combating Special Crimes of Violence identified the suspects by analysing video material from the route followed by the perpetrators after the attack. Significant evidence also emerged from surveillance that had preceded the home of Aphrodite Nestor, as well as from biological material found at the entrance of the apartment building.
The younger of the two men is said to have provided his home to be used as a refuge. The distance from there to Aphrodite Nestor's residence does not exceed 50 metres. The woman who was arrested was found in Chania, where she had fled following the events.
Outside the courts, individuals from the anarchist circles had gathered, which justified the strong police presence that had been deployed in the area.
The investigation has not been completed. Authorities are still seeking another person who may have had a role in the attack. Separately, two further cases of arson in homes of political figures — former MP Savvas Anastasiades and executive Zisis Ioakeimdis — are being examined, which are attributed to a different group.
