A prosecutor has filed a murder charge against a 38-year-old man arrested for the fatal wounding of a 67-year-old in Evosmos, Thessaloniki. The accused claims the victim fell on his own.

Prosecutorial intervention took place in a fatal wounding case that occurred in Evosmos, Thessaloniki. The prosecutor filed a murder charge against a 38-year-old, whom authorities had arrested for the death of a 67-year-old man.
Based on information that has come to light, the arrested man allegedly claimed that on the fateful Friday evening he consumed substances that fall under narcotics law together with the victim. According to the account he presented, the elderly man slipped and found himself on the ground, whilst he himself attempted to help him.
The 38-year-old was referred before the 3rd Investigating Magistrate in Thessaloniki. Beyond the serious charge of causing another person's death, he was also charged with the acquisition and possession of psychotropic substances for personal use, at misdemeanour level.
The accused is expected to seek an adjournment to prepare his defence statement, which is scheduled for the coming days. Until the proceedings are completed, he will remain in pre-trial detention.
Investigations by prosecutorial authorities are continuing in order to shed light on the exact circumstances that led to the death of the 67-year-old. According to what has been disclosed, there was a family connection between victim and perpetrator, as the unfortunate man was the father of the 38-year-old's ex-wife.
