The case of incendiary attacks with improvised explosive devices against residences of New Democracy officials in Thessaloniki has been taken over by the Counter-terrorism Service.

The Counter-terrorism Service has taken on the investigation of simultaneous attacks with improvised devices against three residences of New Democracy officials in Thessaloniki. The incidents took place in the early morning hours of Wednesday, 1 July, resulting in five injured persons. One of them, the mother of Member of Parliament Aphrodite Nestora, is in intensive care with serious burns.
The three targets were Zisis Ioakimvits, chairman of the New Democracy Governing Committee in Thessaloniki, former Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki B Savvas Anastasiades, and Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki A Aphrodite Nestora.
According to information from the investigations, authorities have collected significant material from security cameras, which is currently being evaluated. It is estimated that within the next 24 hours evidence will emerge that will lead to the identification of those responsible.
Ms Nestora's mother is hospitalised intubated at Hippokration Hospital with extensive burns. Ms Nestora herself has sustained burns on her upper extremities and is receiving oxygen, whilst her father is experiencing respiratory problems and is being monitored in the pulmonology clinic.
Mr Ioakimvits, in statements to a radio station, said: "We heard a loud bang. I went out to the balcony, saw smoke and realised it was an explosive device. Fortunately we only had material damage." He added that his home was empty at that time as he was absent, and that a neighbour was there. He also noted that three years ago he had been subjected to a similar attack with paint, which has never been solved.
Mr Anastasiades said that the cameras recorded a person who approached from a wooded area and placed the devices. According to him, the attack took place at 3 in the morning and caused damage to the windows.
No organisation has claimed responsibility for these actions.
