The Three-Member Misdemeanour Court of Thessaloniki has convicted a 41-year-old tutor at a private coaching centre to a one-year prison sentence with a three-year suspension, after being found guilty of repeated violation of sexual dignity. The offences were committed during private lessons he gave to students who were preparing for the nationwide university entrance examinations.
The case came to light when one of the girls, following encouragement from a friend, found the courage to tell her mother about the tutor's behaviour. The complaint was filed approximately four years after the girl completed the nationwide entrance examinations. A second complaint was subsequently filed by another student who had also attended private lessons with the same tutor.
During the trial, the young women gave shocking testimonies. The court examined electronic messages sent by the defendant to the students, which were described as particularly revealing and shocking.
The 41-year-old denied all charges. He argued in court that close contact with the students during the critical examination period was necessary so he could be near them and provide psychological support. His argument did not convince the court, which found no mitigating circumstances in his favour.
Following the announcement of the verdict, the convicted man was released, as his sentence was suspended and had a suspension character.
