The mother of politician Aphroditi Nestora died when explosive devices struck an apartment building in Thessaloniki, whilst her daughter is hospitalised with serious burns.

Explosive devices planted in an apartment building in Thessaloniki claimed the life of Vagia Nestora, mother of politician Aphroditi Nestora. The unfortunate woman attempted to evacuate the building, which had caught fire, but was unable to do so.
Her daughter is being treated in the Burns Unit of Papanikolaou Hospital, suffering injuries to her limbs. Her condition remains critical and requires extended recovery.
The family has already suffered loss in the past, as Aphroditi's sister, Nikoleta, passed away at the age of 37 following a prolonged illness.
Vagia Nestora's funeral will take place the following week, so that her daughter will be able to attend.
Investigating authorities have focused attention on three individuals. Two of them allegedly drove the motorcycle that carried the explosive device, whilst a third person is believed to have acted as a lookout.
Investigators are examining the means of transport used by the perpetrators. In the first two attacks, which caused only material damage to buildings belonging to politicians, the perpetrators appear to have moved on foot. Half an hour later they carried out the attack that cost the politician's mother her life.
According to journalist Vassilis Lampropoulos, the suspected perpetrators are individuals around 30 years old, a fact that may overturn the assessment that they were very young and inexperienced operatives. The investigations are focusing on the location from which the motorcycles departed, whilst visual material is being collected from security cameras in the wider area.
