Police officers from the Immediate Action unit in Thessaloniki immobilised a 22-year-old driver yesterday morning who was illegally transporting foreign nationals and attempted to flee using dangerous manoeuvres, ramming a police vehicle. The incident occurred in the Dendropoatmos area.

According to an announcement by the Hellenic Police and as reported by Naftemporiki, police officers patrolling the area spotted a suspicious vehicle. The driver, rather than complying with a stop signal, accelerated.

During the pursuit, the young man dropped off six passengers near the Vegetable Market. He then attempted to strike the police vehicle, but was immobilised and arrested.

The car he was using belonged to a car rental company based in a neighbouring country. Police officers also seized a mobile phone, which is believed to have been used for communication with associates.

The 22-year-old is being referred to the prosecutor with a case file compiled by the Migration Management Department of Thessaloniki.
