Fire at Veïko Grove caused by firecracker throws – three minors and parents in police custody
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday, a fire broke out in an open area on the borders of Psychico, Galatsi and the upper section of Veïko Grove, according to In.gr.
Officials from the Arson Crime Suppression Directorate (ΔΑΕΕ) of the Fire Service immediately conducted an inspection at the site, gathered evidence and took statements to determine the point of origin, the mechanism and the conditions under which the fire broke out.
Following the evaluation of preliminary investigation findings, the involvement of three minors emerged, who are alleged to have thrown firecrackers. The throwing caused the ignition of dry vegetation and subsequently led to the outbreak of the fire.
The three minors were arrested in flagrante delicto. In connection with the same case, their parents were also arrested on charges of negligent supervision of minors.
During their examination by investigative officials of the ΔΑΕΕ, the minors acknowledged their involvement and described their actions before the fire broke out. They expressed strong remorse, recognised the seriousness of their behaviour and apologised for the incident.
Their conduct was recorded as part of the preliminary investigation procedure and is being considered along with all other evidence from the investigation.
The arrested individuals will be brought before the competent prosecutorial authorities.
