Arrest of three women with special anti-theft bypass bag in Athens

Three women—aged 17, 39 and 59—were arrested red-handed in central Athens on Friday afternoon, 2 October 2026, according to In.gr. The arrest was made by police officers from the Counter-Commerce Team of the Patrol Sub-Directorate/D.A.A./G.A.D.A., who have charged them with theft by joint participation and as a continuing offence.

The officers identified the suspects whilst investigating thefts from shops in the historic city centre. After placing them under discrete observation, they stopped them for a check.

During the check, it was established that the three women posed as customers and left shops having removed products. The stolen items were placed in a specially designed bag, which prevented the activation of automatic security systems. The bag was seized.

Also found in their possession were products that they had removed shortly beforehand from three shops in the centre—these were also seized.

The arrested women were taken to the Acropolis Crime Investigation and Detection Department/D.D.E.E.A./G.A.D.A., where a case file was opened against them. They were subsequently referred to the competent prosecutor.
