Arrests of taxi drivers for illegal charging in Lasithi
Three taxi drivers were arrested in Lasithi on 15 June 2026 during targeted traffic police checks, according to cnn.gr. The arrested men, aged 25, 47 and 48, attempted to collect from passengers amounts higher than those displayed on the taximeter and on the issued receipt.
The checks were carried out by police officers from the Agios Nikolaos Traffic Department, which also undertook the preliminary investigation into the case. The three drivers were subject to the prescribed administrative penalties.
The Hellenic Police announced that the checks would continue with the aim of enhancing public confidence in their journeys.
