Three people have been arrested in Thessaloniki and Crete for the arson attacks on 1 July 2026 that led to the death of Vagia Nestora. Two men were apprehended in Thessaloniki and one woman in Chania.

Police have made three arrests of individuals allegedly involved in the arson attacks that took place on 1 July 2026 at the homes of New Democracy officials in the co-capital. Vagia Nestora, mother of politician Aphrodite Nestora, lost her life in these attacks.

Information reported by newsit.gr indicates that the first arrest took place in Thessaloniki, followed by a second in the same city, whilst the third was made in Chania, Crete. The first two arrests concern men, whilst the third concerns a woman.

In addition to the fatal injuries suffered by the elderly woman, four other people sustained injuries. The investigating authorities are also looking into the possibility of a fourth accomplice. The Counter-Terrorism Division's operation continues, with searches of residences and other locations, whilst an official announcement regarding the charges is expected.
