Arrests in Thessaloniki for drugs via Telegram and cryptocurrency

Three young men, aged 18, 25 and 30, were arrested in Thessaloniki following an investigation into drug trafficking via the Telegram application, according to athensvoice.gr.

The suspects were using groups on the application to identify potential buyers of illegal substances. Payments were conducted exclusively in cryptocurrency so that it would be difficult for authorities to identify the financial transactions.

Officials from AADE played a decisive role in uncovering the case, presenting themselves as potential buyers and managing to make initial contact with the 18-year-old suspect. Following further investigation of his activities, the inspectors were led to two other individuals, aged 25 and 30, who were also arrested.

The case has raised concerns among authorities due to the systematic exploitation of digital platforms and cryptocurrency to facilitate illegal drug trafficking.
