Three arrested in Lagkada – posed as DEDIE employees in thefts
In a village in the municipality of Lagkada in Thessaloniki, police arrested three men aged 27, 33 and 43. These individuals posed as employees of DEDIE with the aim of seizing money and valuable items from unsuspecting citizens, as reported by ERT.
The operation by ELAS was carried out as part of a crime prevention programme. The three perpetrators had targeted a 38-year-old man, from whom they attempted to steal cash, jewellery and valuables. Officers immobilised them and placed them in handcuffs.
A vehicle they used for transport was found in their possession. An inspection that was conducted showed that the same vehicle had been used in two other fraud cases, one in Thessaloniki and one in Katerini.
The tactic they employed was based on exploiting the trust that citizens have in employees of public organisations. They posed as technicians for the electricity company and through various pretexts attempted to enter homes or extract money.
The authorities are investigating whether the three men are part of a broader network operating in the Central Macedonia region. The arrested individuals were brought before the prosecutor, with the preliminary investigation continuing in order to locate any additional victims.
