A violent incident between a livestock farmer and police officers was recorded yesterday in a village in the Minoa Pediada Municipality in Heraklion, according to Ta Nea. The case resulted in two injuries, hospitalisation, and the arrest of both parties involved following a prosecutorial order.
The incident began during a traffic control, when officers from a regional police station attempted to document a violation against the livestock farmer. According to police sources cited by patris.gr, the man in question has come to the attention of authorities in the past.
The person being checked allegedly insulted and threatened the police officers, and when they attempted to restrain him, he reacted violently. A physical altercation ensued. "They came to blows, fell to the ground and the struggle was unprecedented in nature," a local resident told patris.gr.
The situation deteriorated further when relatives of the livestock farmer gathered at the scene, some of whom allegedly made direct threats against the police officer involved in the incident.
Both protagonists were injured and transported to hospital. The livestock farmer was arrested for disruption of duty, resisting police, threatening an officer, and grievous bodily harm. He subsequently filed a complaint against the police officer, alleging assault against him. The prosecutor, having been informed of the incident, ordered the arrest of both parties.
The exact circumstances under which the traffic control led to the altercation remain under investigation and are expected to be clarified through the statements of those involved and the preliminary investigation procedure.
