The family of former minister Sifis Valyrakis intends to file an appeal application at the Athens Court of Appeal Prosecutors' Office on Tuesday 13 October 2026.

Appeal application against acquittal verdict in Sifis Valyrakis death case
The family of former minister Sifis Valyrakis intends to proceed with filing an application to lodge an appeal against the acquittal verdict of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens. The application concerns the case of his death, for which the court issued an acquittal decision following a lengthy hearing procedure.
According to Dikastiko.gr, lawyer Zoi Konstantopoulou, one of the family's legal representatives, announced via a post that the prosecutors supporting the prosecution believe that the evidence presented to the court substantiates the guilt of the defendants.
To substantiate this position, the prosecutors cite two key elements: on the one hand, the prosecutorial recommendation formulated during the trial, and on the other hand, the dissenting opinion of the court president himself. Both, according to the family's position, support a finding of guilt.
Procedure on Tuesday 13 October
The appeal application is expected to be filed on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at 12:30 at the Athens Court of Appeal Prosecutors' Office. Subsequently, at 16:00, the family's legal representatives will hold a press conference at the Athens Bar Association.
During this press conference, the legal team intends to publicly elaborate on its positions both regarding the course of the case and the acquittal verdict that was issued.
