Three men have been arrested in Crete for the murder of a 49-year-old. Among those arrested are a father and son, the latter of whom has previously been in the public eye.

Three men are now in the hands of prosecuting authorities following an operation organised in the interior of the island. The arrested men are accused of the death of a 49-year-old resident of the area, who became the victim of an assault while cycling on a dirt road.
According to reporting by Newsbeast, the case file that was drawn up attributes the role of direct perpetrators to two of the three, whilst moral complicity is attributed to the third. The ages of the accused are 32, 57 and 59 years old.
One of the individuals brought in has previously attracted public attention. The 32-year-old was involved nearly a decade ago in one of the most controversial cases of violence in an educational institution, that of Vangelis Giakoumakis at the Dairy School of Ioannina.
The incident being investigated today is dated to the beginning of March of the current year. The victim was initially transported to a health centre and subsequently to a hospital, where he underwent surgical intervention on his head. Despite the efforts of doctors, he died three weeks later.
Forensic examination revealed skull injuries from blows with a sharp object, a fact which ruled out the possibility of an accident. The relatives of the unfortunate man had expressed their suspicions of criminal activity from the outset.
Heraklion Police worked extensively collecting evidence, examining testimonies and analysing visual material. The operation on 10 June led to apprehensions and extensive searches of houses and agricultural facilities, where weapons, ammunition and other items were found.
The case file is now in the hands of the judiciary, which will decide on the further criminal treatment of the three accused.
