Two men aged 42 were remanded in custody at correctional facilities in Nafplio and Malandrino, as part of the judicial investigation into the high-profile arson attack on the Marfin bank branch on Stathiou Street, which resulted in the deaths of three employees in May 2010.
During their statements, both the investigating judge and the prosecutor decided that the two defendants should be held in custody. The judicial official reportedly noted that those involved demonstrated "contempt for human life".
Simultaneously, authorities are investigating the origin of an electronic message that allegedly implicates the two men in the case. The sender of the email remains unknown and is being sought.
Meanwhile, the family of Angeliki Papathanasopoulou, the pregnant employee who lost her life in the tragedy, issued a statement. The case has generated considerable public interest, as 16 years pass since the fatal incident without justice having yet been served.
