Active EYP official turns to justice over Predator case
Ioannis Papadopoulos, an active official of the National Intelligence Service, filed a criminal complaint with the Athens District Prosecutor's Office regarding the wiretapping case, according to Newsbeast.
The complaint is directed against those who have already been convicted at first instance in the case. Papadopoulos attributes to them a series of felonies: breach of communications confidentiality, formation of a criminal organisation, and espionage.
In the criminal complaint, it is emphasised that his case differs substantially from that of other victims of Predator software. He points out that the contamination of his mobile phone concerns an active employee of the EYP who, by virtue of his official status, handles exceptionally sensitive, highly classified and graded information. The leaking of such data to third parties — and especially to private individuals — constitutes, according to the criminal complaint, a threat to national security and the offence of espionage.
In parallel, Papadopoulos is asking the judicial authorities to broaden the scope of their investigations. The objective, as stated, is to uncover the network of espionage operations, as well as to identify all persons who participated in or assisted it — whether as moral authors, co-perpetrators or accomplices.
