Former Croatian international footballer Dario Šimić was brought in during the early morning hours as part of an investigation by the anti-corruption body. After questioning, he was released as USKOK did not file a request for investigative detention.
According to information provided by 24sata, Šimić is under investigation on suspicion of influencing Neda Livljanić, a former head of the Tourism Department in Šibenik-Knin County. He is accused of asking her, through his friend Marina Miškić, a recent chairman of NK Vodice and vice-president of the HSS, to enable him to obtain permits for a camp near Tisno. The plots at that location, according to available data, are not intended for construction at all.
Miškić was also brought in, but he too was released after questioning. A source states that the investigation does not believe Livljanić received financial compensation for the favour, but rather that she agreed to help regardless of personal benefit, as she allegedly did in other cases.
The case occurs in the context of a broader fight against corruption at local level, where connections between public officials and private investors in the tourism sector are frequently called into question.
