Čakovec – A 42-year-old man fired shots at two young men in a restaurant car park on Saturday evening. A 23-year-old and a 28-year-old man sustained injuries but are not in life-threatening condition and are in a stable state.
The court ordered the attacker to be held in custody for at least 30 days. Surprisingly, the state prosecutor's office did not request detention due to fear that he would flee – probably because he reported himself to the authorities. An investigation is being conducted against him for attempted murder and endangering life and property by a generally dangerous act or means. At the time of the shooting, a further man and a woman were in immediate proximity, which made the danger even greater.
Police arrested him on Tuesday. According to unconfirmed information, investigators contacted his acquaintances, learned that he had fled across the border, and persuaded him to report himself. After that, he came to the police station in Čakovec.
During a search, cocaine, marijuana and an electronic scale for measuring were found on him. More than dozens of witnesses were questioned.
According to information from 24sata, the suspect has a long criminal history both in Croatia and abroad. In the Republic of Srpska he was convicted of a series of offences – from grievous bodily harm to possession of drugs. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, he recently served a sentence for unlawful possession of weapons and explosives, as well as cultivation and sale of marijuana. In his home country he was reported for fraud, after which he turned to dubious activities in neighbouring countries.
Police previously issued a warning to the public that this is a person extremely dangerous to the community and should not be approached, with 192 to be called immediately instead.
