According to police statements, the suspects, in three separate incidents between 14 and 17 October, picked up migrants who had illegally entered Croatia. They used private and commercial vehicles with Austrian and Czech registration plates for transport.
In the last recorded incident on 17 October, the Hungarian and Ukrainian nationals were found in a minibus immediately after they had transferred a group of foreign nationals to territory in Slovenia.
Investigation established that all suspects transported migrants for a prearranged payment. Criminal reports have been filed with the competent state prosecutor's office against all four individuals — for illegal entry, movement and residence in the Republic of Croatia.
The Serbian national, the Syrian and the Ukrainian were handed over to the detention supervisor of the Karlovac Police Directorate. The migrants they transported were treated in accordance with the Law on International and Temporary Protection and the Law on Foreigners. The same regulations will be applied to the suspects in detention. Against the 39-year-old Serbian woman, proceedings have additionally been initiated for violation of the Law on Road Traffic Safety.
