On Tuesday afternoon, a patrol in Velika Kosnica noticed the driver of a BMW Series 5 who was not wearing a seatbelt. After police officers signalled him to stop, the young man accelerated and began fleeing along Domovinska Street towards Velika Gorica.

In Rudolf Fizir Street, he abandoned the vehicle and ran into nearby woodland. Police officers caught up with him and, using restraint and binding measures, arrested him and took him to the station.

A quick test for banned substances showed that the man was under the influence of cocaine and cannabis. He refused to cooperate when providing blood and urine samples.

In further investigation, it was established that the suspect had never passed a driving test. Additionally, he had previously been penalised for serious traffic offences.

The police recommended the strictest measure: 120 days in prison, permanent confiscation of the vehicle and a fine of 1,050 euros. The court, however, imposed a lighter sentence — 50 days in prison, temporary seizure of the car until the decision becomes final, and a fine of 750 euros. The vehicle was confiscated in favour of the state.
