Two shops robbed at knifepoint in Špansko, five minutes apart
On Tuesday evening, a knife-wielding attacker robbed two shops in Zagreb's Špansko neighbourhood within five minutes of each other. Police are investigating a possible connection.
Knife-wielding robber strikes twice: two robberies in Špansko within five minutes
Two shops in the Zagreb neighbourhood of Špansko became targets of a robber within just five minutes of each other on Tuesday evening, according to 24sata. In both cases, the perpetrator threatened staff with a knife and fled with money, and police are still searching for the suspect.
The first robbery occurred around 20.40 hours on Vilima Korajca Street. An unknown man entered the shop and threatened a 26-year-old female employee, a Nepali national with regulated residence in Croatia, with a knife, taking an unspecified sum of money from her.
Just five minutes later, around 20.45 hours, the same or another attacker robbed another shop, this time on Ivan Kukuljević Square. There, threatening with a sharp object, he approached a 23-year-old female employee and took money. The amount of damage in that case has yet to be determined.
The two locations are approximately 15 minutes' walk apart, or less than five minutes by car. Zagreb police are therefore investigating, as part of the launched criminal investigation, the possibility that both robberies were committed by the same person. Footage from security cameras in the shops themselves, as well as from surrounding buildings, could be key evidence in the investigation.
News of the robbery on Ivan Kukuljević Square quickly spread on social media. Commentators described chaotic scenes — one witness reportedly warned passers-by to flee, whilst another user noted the passage of three police cars and two police vans.
Police have not yet confirmed whether the two robberies were committed by the same perpetrator or whether any of the attacked employees were injured.
