Two arrested for 20 thefts on beaches in Istria and Crikvenica, damage worth tens of thousands of euros
Umag police have arrested a 49-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman suspected of a series of thefts on beaches in Istria and Crikvenica. Stolen items included mobile phones, cards and documents, mostly from foreign nationals.

Umag police apprehended a 49-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman this morning following the completion of a criminal investigation in which they are suspected of a total of 20 thefts on beaches in Istria and Crikvenica, according to 24sata. The owners have suffered losses of several tens of thousands of euros.
According to police statements, the pair operated from 12 July to 26 August, targeting mostly foreign nationals. Their targets were rucksacks, bags and waist bags containing money, car keys, mobile phones, bank cards, personal documents, electronic devices and sunglasses.
The man is suspected of all 20 criminal offences, whilst the woman, according to police, participated in 16 of them. The most thefts — ten — were committed in the area of Umag Police Station with a sub-station in Buje. Four cases were recorded in the Poreč area, one in Pula, and five in the area of Crikvenica Police Station.
The investigation was conducted in cooperation with the Criminal Police Sector, Poreč Police Station, Pula Police Station and officers from the Primorsko-Goranska Police Directorate. After apprehension, the suspects were placed in custody at the Istrian Police Directorate detention unit, and a criminal complaint has been filed against them with the competent state prosecutor's office.
