Following a citizens' report, police discovered a migrant smuggling network in New Zagreb. A Croatian citizen was arrested, whilst his alleged accomplice from Serbia remains at large.
Two suspects in human trafficking case in Zagreb, one in custody
Police in Zagreb uncovered a network for the unlawful transport of foreigners after citizens reported suspicious unloading near railway tracks in New Zagreb. In the operation, a 42-year-old Croat was arrested, whilst a search continues for a 55-year-old Serbian man.
The two men allegedly agreed to transport people who had illegally crossed the Croatian border. The older suspect was to transport them in the cargo section of a van with Sisak registration plates. According to police findings, the foreigners were crammed into the boot without air, seats and safety belts, which seriously endangered their lives and health.
The younger suspect drove a private car ahead of the van and acted as a scout warning of police checkpoints. When they reached Brezovačka Road, the migrants were transferred. Police quickly located them and placed them in the reception centre in Ježevu. Following this, the 42-year-old Croat was arrested, whilst the 55-year-old managed to escape.
