Interpol solves horrific crimes after 20 years: murdered women identified, suspects apprehended
The international police organisation Interpol has achieved a breakthrough in solving a series of unsolved murders that occurred more than twenty years ago. As part of the "Identify Me" campaign launched in 2023 in cooperation with police services from multiple countries, women who were listed on so-called Red Notices have been successfully identified.
The aim of the operation was to determine the identity of 47 women who had disappeared without a trace. After intensive investigation, experts were able to link the human remains found with the missing persons. In addition to identifying the victims, investigators were also able to apprehend suspects in some cases for these serious criminal offences.
Criminal investigations in such cases often last years or even decades. Police release all available information about missing persons, including the location and time of disappearance, the location where the body was found, a description of clothing, eye and hair colour, and all identifying marks. This information can help members of the public who may have any useful information.
Although local police often face challenges in apprehending perpetrators in their everyday work, international cooperation has proved crucial in solving such cold cases.
