Canadian citizen arrested over fire near Drniš, two suspects at large
A Canadian woman (b. 1996) has been remanded in custody over a fire near Drniš, whilst police search for two other Canadian citizens suspected of the same offence.
Fire near Drniš: Canadian woman in custody, search continues for two countrymen
The municipal state prosecutor's office in Šibenik has ordered remand in custody for a Canadian citizen (b. 1996) suspected of starting a fire in the Šibenik-Kninska County area, reports Index.hr. The other two Canadian citizens involved in the incident remain at large.
According to the State Attorney's Office, it is suspected that on 17 August, the suspect, acting together and by agreement with two other Canadian citizens (b. 1995 and 1998), set fire to dry grass and low vegetation near a macadam turning area in the village of Bobodol in the Drniš area. The fire broke out on Monday afternoon.
Dry grass and low vegetation burned over an area of 15 by three metres. Firefighters from Promina Volunteer Fire Service and Biskupija Volunteer Fire Service — a total of four firefighters with two vehicles — together with local residents prevented the fire from spreading further. The fire was completely extinguished at 17:54.
The suspect Canadian woman is charged with the criminal offence of endangering life and property by a generally dangerous act or means. After police investigation, she was handed over to the remand supervisor.
The prosecutor's office proposed to the investigating judge of Šibenik County Court that remand in custody be ordered against all three suspects — on grounds of flight risk and possibility of reoffending. The investigating judge accepted the proposal for all three, whilst a search has been launched for the two who are at large.
