Forged waybills and others' timber: four suspects in Gospić
Gospić police have concluded their investigation into four Croatian citizens over illegal timber trading, forgery of documents and money laundering.
Gospić police submit criminal report over timber fraud
The Lika-Senj police have completed a criminal investigation into four Croatian citizens suspected of illegal timber trading, document forgery, money laundering and abuse of position and authority, according to Index.hr. Under investigation are two women aged 60 and 51, and two men aged 40 and 38.
According to investigators' allegations, the 60-year-old woman, as a responsible person in the company, concluded a contract for the purchase and sale of energy wood knowing that the seller — the 51-year-old woman — was not the actual owner of the timber. It is suspected that the 51-year-old woman thereby obtained a financial benefit of €3,200 for herself.
The same 60-year-old woman is also suspected of using incorrect waybills in the sale of timber assortments to end customers. The police believe that these waybills were filled out and certified by the 40-year-old man, and were not issued in accordance with the Regulation on tree designation, marking of forest products, waybills and forest procedures. In this way, the company obtained an undeserved financial benefit of €8,800.
The fourth suspect, a 38-year-old employee of the same company, is charged with failing to perform specialised work that was his legal obligation as a person holding a licensed contractor licence. Police believe that this very oversight enabled the 40-year-old to issue waybills that were not filled out in accordance with the regulations.
Following the completion of the investigation, police will submit a special report to the competent state prosecutor's office as a supplement to the criminal report against all four suspects.
