Underage Austrian girl injured after falling from e-scooter in Rovinj — parents reported
A minor under 14 years of age was riding an electric scooter in the wrong direction in Rovinj when she struck a kerb. Police are initiating misdemeanour proceedings against her parents.
E-scooter in wrong direction: girl hospitalised, parents reported
An underage Austrian citizen was slightly injured in a traffic accident in Rovinj, according to Index.hr. The accident occurred yesterday at around 14:35 at the intersection of Carducci Street and Domenico Pergolesi Street.
The girl was riding an electric scooter on the roadway of one-way Domenico Pergolesi Street, but in the prohibited direction. At the intersection, she lost control due to excessive speed, struck a kerb on the pavement and was thrown against an iron flower planter.
After the accident, she was taken to Pula hospital, where she was kept under observation. As a person under 14 years of age, she is not subject to misdemeanour liability, so police did not initiate proceedings against her — instead, a misdemeanour report will be filed against her parent.
Istrian police used this case as a reminder: electric scooters may only be ridden by persons over 14 years of age. Parents and guardians have been urged not to purchase such vehicles for children under that age, as they are not permitted to operate them and they could put them in danger. All road users have been called upon to observe traffic regulations for their own safety and that of others.
Police also took the opportunity to remind the public of the preventative project "Safe on a Scooter", through which additional advice on safe riding is available.
