Nenad Petrak (33) from Split faces charges of international cocaine trafficking after investigators obtained his mobile phone containing messages from the encrypted application SKY ECC. The device was found in a park in Zagreb, and it contained communications that revealed a network of dealers.
According to the indictment, Petrak coordinated the smuggling of narcotics from South America to Europe. He was arrested in April 2024 in Zagreb, and during a search of his flat, police seized a larger sum of money, digital devices and documentation.
A particularly interesting detail of the investigation is that the mobile phone that exposed the entire network was found by chance – someone had left it in the park, and the person who found it handed it over to the police. Forensic experts managed to decrypt the contents and link it to Petrak.
If found guilty, the Split resident faces a prison sentence of up to 15 years. The case has attracted attention also because it is one of the rare cases in Croatia where encrypted communications have been accepted as valid evidence in court.
