Man arrested on Krk: Set house and garage of 83-year-old woman on fire
Police have arrested a 62-year-old man suspected of deliberately setting fire to a house and garage in Krk. The fires broke out on Saturday at around 2.30 a.m., and the damage is substantial.

Police have arrested a 62-year-old Croatian national suspected of deliberately setting fire to a family home and garage in Krk, according to 24sata. The fires broke out in the night of Friday to Saturday, 22 August, at around 2.30 a.m., in the settlement of Brzac.
According to police statements, the suspect used flammable liquid and an open flame to set fire to the house belonging to an 83-year-old woman. The fire initially engulfed the kitchen, where a sofa was completely destroyed, and then spread to the living room, entrance hall and other rooms.
Following this, the man is suspected by police of starting a fire in an adjacent garage in the same manner, which is used by the same 83-year-old woman. In the garage, he set fire to a cultivator with a trailer.
At the time the fires broke out, there was no one in the buildings, so there were no injured persons.
The firefighters of the Krk Public Fire Service received the call at 3.18 a.m. The on-duty shift immediately set out with two vehicles and three firefighters. Several minutes after the initial report, information arrived that the fire had reached the house, so another vehicle with two firefighters was dispatched.
Upon arrival, they found the fire in a raging phase. During extinguishing, they removed two gas cylinders from the building. Both fires were contained and completely extinguished at 4.35 a.m., after which firefighters inspected the buildings, checked for possible hotspots and vented the space to prevent the fire from reigniting.
Police officers from Krk Police Station have completed their criminal investigation into the 62-year-old on suspicion of the criminal offence of endangering life and property through a generally dangerous act or means. Following the completed investigation, he was brought with a criminal report to the detention supervisor of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Administration.
The police will determine the circumstances and exact cause of the fire following an on-scene inspection.
