Stole gun from security guard and shot himself while fleeing police
Dubrovnik police received a report shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday from a security guard in Nova Mokošica who reported that an unknown man had pulled his service pistol from its holster during a brief conversation and fled, according to Index.hr.
The man got into a parked van and drove off abruptly, hitting another parked vehicle in the process and leaving the settlement without stopping. Police immediately deployed available forces to the scene.
A patrol soon spotted the van near Trsteno moving towards Split and began pursuit. As officers were following the vehicle, a gunshot from the pistol was heard from inside the van. The vehicle continued for several moments and then stopped on a section of road in Slano.
Officers found the lifeless body of a man in the driver's seat. It was subsequently determined to be a 31-year-old Bosnian and Herzegovinian citizen who was residing in Croatia on a temporary residence permit. According to Dubrovnik police, the man committed suicide with the gun he had earlier stolen from the security guard.
The body was transported to the pathology department of Dubrovnik Hospital for an autopsy, and the investigation was overseen by the County State Attorney's Office. During the investigation, traffic on that section of state road D-8 was regulated to alternate single-lane flow under police control.
