Rijeka police have arrested a 39-year-old man suspected of deliberately setting fire to someone else's car in Zamet on 14 August. The fire spread to the courtyard of a neighbouring building.

Rijeka police have taken into custody a 39-year-old Croatian national suspected of deliberately setting fire to a private car in Zamet, according to Index.hr citing the Primorje-Gorski Kotar police.

The incident occurred on 14 August at around 23:00 at a car park in the Rijeka district. According to a police report, the suspect first damaged the rear left tyre of the vehicle, which was owned by a 46-year-old Croatian national, with a sharp object, and then set the car on fire using flammable liquid and an open flame.

The fire spread from the vehicle to the courtyard of a nearby residential building, where minor damage to plants was caused. The total material damage to the car has been estimated at at least €2,000.

Following the conclusion of criminal investigation, the 39-year-old was handed over to the custody supervisor with a criminal report for endangering the life and property of others through a generally dangerous act.
