A man opened fire in the car park outside a café in the centre of Čakovec on Saturday before 4 o'clock in the morning. Two victims sustained serious injuries. The attacker then fled and officers are still searching for him, reports Metropolitan.
Police teams from Međimurje are conducting an intensive search. They are in constant contact with the prosecution in Varaždin, which is sending them the necessary documents for further investigative steps. The goal is to find the person responsible as quickly as possible.
Čakovec is located immediately adjacent to the border with Slovenia, and there is an area there with no formal surveillance. Therefore, the possibility cannot be ruled out that the fugitive crossed into the neighbouring country. Because of this, the authorities have released his photograph and appealed to the public for assistance.
Officers have emphasised that no one should approach the suspect. If anyone spots him, they should immediately call the nearest police station without attempting to make contact. The man had previously been involved in police proceedings.
An investigation is being conducted against him for attempted double murder and for creating a danger to other people and their property.
