Attacker in Varaždin beat man over debt, woman drove him off with a stick
In April of this year in Varaždin, a thirty-one-year-old man attempted to forcibly collect a debt from the victim. He threatened to seize his personal belongings. When the victim responded that the amount exceeded his means and that he must not take another's property, the attacker lost his temper. He lunged at the victim and struck him several times on the head.
The incident was stopped only when a woman emerged from the flat holding a stick in her hand and drove off the attacker. The Varaždin Public Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment for attempted unlawful debt collection, according to Večernji list. The indictment calls for measures of caution to be extended to the accused, namely a ban on approaching the victim and communicating with him.
The same portal also reports of a violent incident in Split-Dalmatia County. Two young men, aged 25 and 26, are accused of beating a victim without any reason in front of a nightclub in February 2026, along with two others. They also damaged her car. When the victim fled by car, the attackers pursued her and obstructed her driving.
For the older of the two, prosecutors seek the continuation of investigative detention due to fear that he could repeat the offence, whilst for the younger, an extension of measures of caution is sought.
