Split police intervened late on Wednesday evening, 14 October, around half an hour before midnight following an attempted mass confrontation in the city centre, according to Večernji list. Hundreds of rioters from two supporter groups clashed on Split's Riva, and police officers used coercive measures to prevent escalation.

Public order and peace was restored within 15 minutes. There were no injured persons, and 57 people were detained, Split police stated in an official statement.

The incident occurred ahead of the Ajax and Hajduk match. A group of Dutch supporters was on the Riva under police supervision when around 150 Torcida members moved towards them.
