Several people were detained during a major investigation that covered Zagreb and the surrounding counties. The suspects are accused of having participated in organised trafficking of prohibited substances across borders over the past several years.
According to information reported by tportal, those detained allegedly worked as a courier network for foreign dealers. In exchange for money, they transported shipments from one EU country to another, and occasionally brought goods to the domestic market. It is estimated that the operation involved hundreds of kilogrammes of cocaine and marijuana.
The group operated through registered transport companies and used cargo vehicles to conceal their activities. A crucial piece of evidence for investigators was provided by a decrypted exchange of messages via the encrypted Sky ECC network.
Particularly concerning is the fact that among those detained is a member of the police force. He is suspected, in exchange for payment, of checking vehicle data in official databases, which allowed the group to know whether they were under surveillance.
The operation involved three county police administrations, and the USKOK will decide on criminal charges after questioning.
