Pula: Driver without licence fleeing police caught with axe and false number plates
Pula police have arrested a 41-year-old repeat offender who fled from police without a valid driving licence, refused breath and drug tests, and was found in possession of an axe and a plastic gun in his vehicle.

Istrian police arrested a 41-year-old man from Pula on Sunday afternoon who attempted to flee from traffic police whilst driving without a valid driving licence, according to Index.hr.
At approximately 15:50 hours in Gajeva Street, Pula traffic officers attempted to stop a vehicle with Pula number plates. The driver responded to the visual and audible signals by accelerating before bringing the vehicle to a halt and fleeing on foot. Police officers caught up with him in Viktor Cara Emina Street and used force to prevent him from fleeing further.
Checks revealed that the man does not have a valid driving licence and has never passed the driving test in the preceding period — accumulating 22 negative traffic infraction points in the process. On account of this number of points, the police station issued him with a decision prohibiting him from sitting the driving test until 2028. However, despite this prohibition, he continued to drive.
Suspecting the influence of alcohol and drugs, police officers offered him testing. The man refused. As he had injuries several days old and refused to provide any explanation about their origin, he was taken to Pula hospital, and further criminal investigation will be conducted subsequently.
It was also established that the vehicle bore incorrect registration plates with an expired traffic permit, which according to police constitutes indications of the criminal offence of forgery of documents. A plastic gun and an axe were found in the vehicle.
Police intend to file a charge proposal against the 41-year-old with the competent court for offences under the Law on the Purchase and Possession of Weapons by Citizens and the Law on Road Traffic Safety. They will recommend a custodial sentence of 120 days, a fine of 4,900 euros, and permanent confiscation of the vehicle, according to Istrian police.
