Serial thieves arrested on Istrian beaches: 20 thefts, damage worth tens of thousands of euros
Istrian police have arrested a 49-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman suspected of 20 thefts on beaches in Istria and Crikvenica. The total damage is estimated at several tens of thousands of euros.
Pair targeted Istrian and Crikvenica beaches from July to August
Istrian police have detained a 49-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman suspected of a series of thefts on Adriatic beaches, reports Index.hr. The thefts were committed between 12 July and 26 August at multiple locations along the coast.
The man is accused of 20 criminal offences, and the woman of involvement in 16 of them. Ten thefts occurred in the Umag and Buzet area, four in Poreč, one in Pula and five in the Crikvenica area, according to a statement from the Istrian Police Directorate.
The pair took rucksacks, bags and waist pouches from beaches. The victims were mostly foreign nationals, and the seized items included cash, car keys, mobile phones, bank cards, personal documents, electronic devices and sunglasses.
The total damage is estimated at several tens of thousands of euros. After the criminal investigation was completed, the suspects were handed over to the detention unit of the Istrian Police Directorate, and a criminal complaint has been filed against them with the competent state prosecutor's office.
