Slovenian arrested near Buzet for migrant smuggling
Police officers stopped a car with domestic registration plates in the Buzet area on the evening of 3 July. The vehicle was being driven by a 38-year-old from neighbouring Slovenia, and the passengers in the car were foreigners without valid entry into the country.
According to an official statement from Istrian police, the man had planned to take the migrants to a location that had been agreed in advance. Following an investigation, it was established that there was sufficient reason to suspect that he had committed the criminal offence of illegal border crossing, movement and residence in the territory of Croatia or another EU member state or Schengen signatory.
A criminal report against the suspect was submitted to the competent prosecutor's office. Proceedings against the foreign nationals are being conducted in accordance with regulations governing aliens.
