Split: Two doctors and receptionist issued forged certificates for drivers and seafarers
Split police detained two doctors and a surgery receptionist on suspicion of issuing forged medical certificates to drivers and seafarers for months without conducting any examinations.

Split police have completed a criminal investigation into three suspects, reports Index.hr. At the centre of the investigation are a 75-year-old private doctor, a 79-year-old authorised psychologist and a 40-year-old surgery employee who are suspected of issuing forged medical certificates without conducting any examinations.
According to investigators, the 75-year-old issued forged certificates of medical fitness at his private surgery in the Split-Dalmatia County area from December 2025 to 19 May 2026 to drivers, driving licence candidates and members of ship, boat and yacht crews. The doctor instructed the 40-year-old employee to produce and attest forged certificates for athletes as well, which she did with full awareness that no examinations had been carried out.
The investigation established that the doctor joined forces with the 79-year-old authorised psychologist on at least two occasions and together they issued certificates of medical fitness to seafarers — without a medical examination and without the required psychological assessment.
The two older men were brought before a custody supervisor, whilst a criminal report was filed against the employee through regular channels. Police are charging the 75-year-old with at least 14 criminal offences of abuse of position and authority, whilst the psychologist and employee are suspected of aiding and abetting in those offences.
During the operation, police searched the private surgery, apartments and vehicles of all suspects and seized extensive documentation. The criminal investigation continues, and according to police, it cannot be ruled out that the list of forged certificates will be extended further.
