A man who shot and seriously wounded two men in Čakovec on Saturday morning has turned himself in to police after several days on the run.

A man who shot and seriously wounded two men outside a hospitality establishment in central Čakovec on Saturday morning has voluntarily turned himself in to the police station in the city after several days on the run. Croatian police suspect him of attempted murder and endangering general safety to life and property through use of a generally dangerous means, according to portal 24ur.com.
The shooting occurred early on Saturday morning following a conflict between multiple people. One of those involved drew a pistol during a row and shot two men multiple times, who sustained serious injuries. He then fled the scene.
According to reports from portal Index.hr, cited by 24ur.com, the suspect remained in Slovenia during his flight. Police reportedly established contact with him through people in the criminal underworld, after which he agreed to surrender himself.
Police have previous dealings with him. Six years ago he was arrested in Bosnia and Herzegovina together with two other individuals for cultivating and selling marijuana in an abandoned factory and illegal possession of weapons. He was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. According to unconfirmed information, he served one third of the sentence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then as a Croatian citizen requested transfer to Croatia, where he served the remainder of his sentence in Lepoglava prison. After his release, he allegedly continued with criminal activities. The Varaždin police know him also for economic fraud.
