Young men charged with assault and knife attack in the city centre have been released under court supervision instead of into custody.

The County Court in Slavonski Brod has decided that four twenty-one-year-olds will not go into investigative custody despite charges of brutal assault in the city centre, in which one attacker allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object.
The duty investigating judge received a request from the state prosecution for the detention of four Croatian citizens, all born in 2005. Following a hearing, the judge rejected the requested custody and instead imposed milder measures: a ban on approaching the injured parties at a distance of less than one hundred metres, a ban on any contact with them, and an obligation to report regularly to the police administration.
According to the court's reasoning, it was established that there is a risk of repetition of violent acts. However, they believe that the same objective that would be achieved by imprisonment can be secured by the aforementioned measures, given that the suspects are younger and without previous convictions. So far, no one has filed an appeal against that verdict.
The conflict occurred in the centre of Slavonski Brod. Police reported that two people sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospital. One was discharged, whilst the other remained under treatment.
Arrests were carried out swiftly. Two of the suspects were found on the same day in the Brod-Posavina police area, whilst the other two were arrested on 21 June in the Osijek-Baranya police area.
Criminal investigations confirmed the well-founded suspicion of serious bodily injury, group assault and attempted murder. According to the allegations, a 41-year-old and a 33-year-old suffered a physical attack, during which the older of them sustained a wound from a cold weapon. Following a court order, searches of flats and other premises used by the suspects were carried out, where items relevant to the criminal proceedings were found.
