A seventy-eight-year-old man has been taken into custody by Zagreb and Zadar police on suspicion of illegally possessing, manufacturing and acquiring weapons and explosives. The investigation was launched after citizens reported the matter to police through the official application, according to 24sata.

According to investigative findings, the elderly man had acquired firearms that members of the public are not permitted to possess and concealed them at two locations: in his home in Samobor and in a building on Vir.

On the basis of a court order from Velika Gorica, a search was conducted at the Samobor property. Officers seized nine automatic rifles of various calibres, two rifles of unknown manufacture, an automatic Scorpion pistol with its accompanying magazine, two pistols of different makes, a signal pistol, three incendiary armour-piercing projectiles, 21 illumination rounds, eight training rockets for a hand launcher, a slow-burning fuse, two pistol magazines, 21 rifle magazines, two attachments for grenade launcher mines, a bolt for a repeating rifle and 3,401 rounds of various ammunition.

In the property on Vir, a further 101 rounds of ammunition were discovered. After the investigative officers completed their work, the suspect was handed over to the detention supervisor and a criminal report was submitted to the prosecution.

Published photographs show weapons that appear to be Kalashnikovs, among them a folding AKMS, a Soviet PPSh-41, a Thompson rifle, a pistol resembling a Makarov PM and accompanying magazines.
