Illegal fireworks found near schools, five girls injured in Kaštela
Five thirteen-year-old pupils were slightly injured in Kaštela on Friday at around 11.20 hours after a pyrotechnic device exploded near an primary school. The girls sustained burns and abrasions and were given assistance on the spot.
On the same day, police officers conducting a preventive inspection in Split-Dalmatia County found a total of 275 items of illegal explosive equipment hidden in vegetation and wooded areas near school buildings. Eleven locations in Split, Stožanac, Solin and Sinj were searched. The items found belong to a category that is prohibited by law even for adults.
Officials warned that the use of such devices near educational institutions could lead to fires, property damage and serious injuries. Additionally, two minors were taken to a police station in connection with the incident in Kaštela, and an investigation is being conducted against them. Police have called on parents and educators to discuss the risks associated with fireworks with children and to instruct them on responsible behaviour at the end of the school year. Increased surveillance around schools will continue in the coming days.
