The Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) apprehended former Haitian deputy Arnel Bélizaire on Saturday, 14 March 2026 at 16:45, at the Oasis hotel in Pétion-Ville, on the basis of an arrest warrant. According to haitiantimes.com, the operation was conducted by judicial police agents who went directly to the hotel establishment to proceed with his arrest.
The charges retained against Bélizaire are multiple: financing of terrorism, attempted attack, conspiracy against the internal security of the State, and criminal association. The police authorities have not yet communicated further details on the judicial proceedings in the matter.
An arrest days after his appearance at the CEP
The apprehension comes in a particular context. Shortly before his arrest, Bélizaire had presented himself at the headquarters of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to register his political party in view of the elections.
