A reporter employed by Radio Télé Inurep was killed after being targeted by armed men in the Mahotiere 83 sector, in the municipality of Carrefour, Haiti. This event was documented by UNESCO.

The head of the international organisation, Audrey Azoulay, publicly condemned this death. She noted that numerous media professionals in this Caribbean country sacrifice their lives in the exercise of their duties, which seriously disrupts citizens' access to news.

She furthermore urged government officials to shed full light on this homicide and to improve the security of people working in the media sector.

Figures established by the organisation reveal that ten media professionals have lost their lives in Haiti between the beginning of 2022 and now. This toll reflects the constant deterioration of working conditions for journalists in the field.

The institution carries out various actions to defend reporters, such as training programmes, awareness campaigns at global scale, as well as measures inscribed in the United Nations Plan of Action aimed at protecting journalists and combating impunity.
