Agents of the Haitian National Police foiled a kidnapping attempt on Wednesday evening in the Delmas 75 area. The operation made it possible to rescue a university professor who was targeted by the abductors and to neutralise at least one suspected member of an armed group.

According to information gathered by the newspaper, the criminals were travelling in a utility vehicle when law enforcement intervened. Under gunfire from police officers, the assailants fled, abandoning their van on the roadway. The criminals escaped by taking two motorcycles with them.

The intervention resulted in the death of at least one of the alleged kidnappers. The university professor who was targeted by this abduction attempt was rescued by PNH agents.

Kidnappings for ransom remain a persistent threat in the Port-au-Prince region, where gangs continue to terrorise the population. This successful operation illustrates the efforts of law enforcement to counter these criminal activities despite an extremely difficult security situation.
