According to information from the Budapest Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office, police independently decided to question István Szakács, a well-known face of Megafon, as a suspect – according to Magyar Hang. A search was carried out at the man's home on Wednesday at dawn, he was then brought in and later questioned as a suspect.

The National Investigative Office notified the prosecutor's office in writing on 3 July that it had initiated proceedings for the offence of threatening to commit a terrorist act. The investigation was based on a video message shared by the person in question at the end of June. On 7 July, prosecutors were informed by telephone that a search was being conducted, that the man would be brought in and later questioned as a suspect. The prosecutor verbally drew the investigators' attention to the need to examine with particular care whether the act truly conformed to the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code.

The prosecutor's office stressed that, under criminal procedure rules, the investigative authority acts independently during the investigation stage and makes its own decision on whether there is reasonable suspicion, without prosecutorial approval. This is what happened in this case. Szakács filed a complaint against the suspicion, but police did not place him in detention. The prosecutor's office received the complaint and documents on Thursday and will later decide on the lawfulness of the suspicion, and will inform the public.
