Akácfa Street murder: new person wanted, previously arrested man has alibi confirmed
Police issued a new wanted notice on Sunday in connection with the Akácfa Street murder on Friday. The 40-year-old man arrested on Saturday has had his alibi confirmed.
New wanted notice in connection with Akácfa Street homicide
According to Index reporting, police issued a new wanted notice on Sunday afternoon in connection with the Akácfa Street killing committed in Budapest city centre in the early hours of Friday. The authorities are searching for 40-year-old Dávid Horváth on suspicion of homicide, whilst continuing to seek his 48-year-old associate on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
It has since emerged that the 40-year-old man arrested on Saturday has an alibi, leading investigators to rule out his involvement in the crime. His legal representative, Dániel Tran, told RTL News: "he had an alibi for the time of the commission of the crime, and police have of course checked and been able to verify it". He added that no suspect charges were brought.
The lawyer, however, objected to police releasing his client's name and photograph. "We are talking here about perhaps the most serious of crimes, homicide. Much of the press reported his full name, which has deeply shaken the client; he is still processing this at the moment," Tran Dániel said.
The police officers first to respond at the scene began resuscitation of the 36-year-old man who had been assaulted, which was taken over by arriving paramedics and continued at an advanced level – said Brigitta Szűcs, spokesperson for the National Ambulance Service. Life-saving interventions were performed and medication administered, but despite all efforts, the injured man died at the scene.
An Italian tourist, who woke to a scream in the building, told RTL News that the sight was shocking. "A man was lying on the ground, his chest was completely open and you could clearly see how they were trying to restart his circulation and breathing," said the witness.
