The court has ordered one month's remand in custody for Balázs Bús, the former deputy chair of the National Cultural Fund – according to hvg.hu. The former Óbuda leader was taken into custody on Tuesday by investigators in connection with the distribution of NKA funds ahead of elections.
Officials from the NAV detained a total of six people on suspicion of budget fraud and breach of duty. Among those detained are the head and cabinet chief of the National Cultural Support Administration.
The Bács-Kiskun county prosecutor's office requested remand in custody for all those involved, as the authorities believe there is a risk of flight, concealment, interference with the investigation, and commission of further offences.
Following the hearing, Bús told journalists that he had fully cooperated with investigators and had given a statement. He claimed the decision was politically motivated and unlawful. He denied having committed any legal violations.
According to the suspicion, towards the end of the government cycle, billions were distributed through the NKA on the basis of political considerations. A significant portion of the funding went to individuals and companies that had assisted in the ruling party's campaign. The sum in question reaches 17 billion forints.
